Denville Rocks Community Rules

Last updated: July 6, 2026

These Community Rules apply to everyone on community.denvillerocks.com, operated by Cartwright Web Strategies LLC, doing business as Denville Rocks. They work alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If these Rules and the Terms of Service ever conflict on a legal point, the Terms of Service controls.

The short version

The Denville Rocks Social Club isn’t Facbook, X, Instgram, TikTok etc. Although I’d love to have a $700 Billion market cap like the big guys, this is a small, local passion project, realized. For the most part, it’s just one dude with a computer and a whole lot of sweat equity.

This website is not a global platform. You don’t want to be a keyboard gangster then run into the object of your aggression while buying cupcakes for your kid’s birthday party the next day.

Remember, We are neighbors, so let’s act civil and everything will go just fine!

Nobody likes rules, but due to the knuckleheads that frequent social media websites we do need to have a few:

  • Be a good neighbor. Disagree without being a jerk.
  • Keep divisive national politics out of it; local civic stuff is fine.
  • Don’t spam, scam, or repeatedly self-promote.
  • Don’t post other people’s private information.
  • Nothing illegal, nothing impersonating someone else.
  • No threats against other members, non-members or Denville Rocks staff.
  • Rocky the Rocks Bot flags questionable things for a human to review. We don’t have a huge team of moderators like other sites, nor do we obsess over making sure everything is kumbaya 24/7. Rocky helps us with this. Flags aren’t automatic punishment, and you can appeal.

1. Who This Community Is For

Denville Rocks Community is a space for real neighbors in Denville, NJ and the surrounding area, 18 and older, to connect. Represent yourself honestly. Don’t create an account to impersonate another person, a business, or Denville Rocks staff.

2. Be a Good Neighbor

Personal attacks, harassment, name-calling, threats, slurs, and deliberate baiting aren’t allowed, whether directed at another member, a local business, or a public figure. You can disagree, sometimes strongly, but you can’t be cruel about it. Repeated incivility, even if no single post crosses the line on its own, can still result in enforcement (Section 10).

3. Keep It Local

This Community exists for Denville-area life: schools, local businesses, town happenings, local civic issues, and neighbor-to-neighbor conversation. Discussion of local government, local elections, and local policy is welcome.

Divisive national political content (national elections, national figures, hot-button national/partisan issues) isn’t what this space is for, and posts along those lines get held for human review rather than published immediately. This isn’t about silencing any particular viewpoint; the same national political fight is already happening everywhere else on the internet, and we’d rather keep this space about Denville.

4. No Spam, Scams, or Unwanted Promotion

Recommending a local business when someone asks (“try Joe’s Plumbing, they did great work for me”) is exactly what this Community is for. What isn’t allowed: repeated, unsolicited advertising; posting the same promotional content across multiple threads or groups; commercial links or phone numbers dropped into unrelated conversations; or accounts that exist mainly to promote a business rather than participate as a neighbor.

Businesses that want a stronger promotional presence should look at becoming a Featured Business Partner through the Denville Business Directory, rather than self-promoting directly in the Community. Featured business partners have more access to the community, including recommendations via Rocky the Rocks Bot, in feed ads, and enhanced posting privileges.

Posts from any business outside of our area will be removed. There are many national companies that will see the opportunity to spam the community with their product or service. This platform is for Denville and the immediately surrounding areas.

We may also act on patterns associated with spam and scam accounts, for example, brand-new accounts posting commercial content immediately, identical posts repeated across threads, or generic sales pitches unrelated to any real local activity.

5. Respect Privacy: No Doxxing

Don’t post another person’s home address, phone number, workplace, financial information, or other private details without their consent, even if you’re angry at them, even if it’s “public record.” If you’re a private individual and someone has posted your private information without consent, report it immediately (Section 11).

6. Nothing Illegal

Don’t post content that facilitates or promotes illegal activity, including the sale of illegal goods or services, under applicable New Jersey and federal law.

7. Respect Intellectual Property

Only post content you have the right to post. Don’t upload copyrighted photos, articles, or other material that isn’t yours, that you don’t have permission to share, or that you haven’t properly attributed where attribution is required.

8. How Moderation Works

Rocky the Rocks Bot, our AI-assisted moderation tool, reviews Community activity and flags content that may raise concerns under Sections 2 through 4 above. A flag is not a punishment; it routes the content to a human moderator for review. No permanent action (content removal, suspension, ban) is taken on an automated flag alone.

Content involving credible threats, doxxing, or clearly illegal material may be removed immediately, without waiting for the normal review queue, given the urgency involved.

9. Reporting Something

If you see content that violates these Rules, use the report option on the post/comment/profile where available, or email support@denvillerocks.com with a link or description. We review reports as promptly as we can.

10. Enforcement

We aim to be proportionate and consistent, but Denville Rocks retains final discretion over enforcement decisions. As a general guide:

  • First violation (minor): content removed, warning issued.
  • Second violation within 90 days: temporary suspension (typically 7 days).
  • Third violation within 90 days, or a pattern of repeated minor violations: permanent ban.
  • Severe violations (threats, doxxing, hate speech, illegal content, coordinated harassment, scam/spam accounts): immediate content removal and, at our discretion, immediate suspension or permanent ban without a prior warning.

If you believe a moderation action was made in error, email support@denvillerocks.com with the content in question and why you believe it was a mistake. We’ll review and respond.

11. Changes to These Rules

We may update these Community Rules as the Community evolves. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Community after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Rules.
